L-artist Austin Camilleri għadu kemm lesta t-tinqix fuq il-moll tal-konkos ta’ Kemmuna ta’ vers minn poeżija ironika tiegħi f’Rakkmu (KKM, 2006) bl-isem ta’ “Arblu Majjistru.” Il-vers huwa ” Ma rridx nintefa’ l-bahar nara jeghreq lil pajjizi.” (Traduzzjoni ta’ Albert Gatt: “I won’t cast myself adrift to watch my country drown.”)

nara jegħreq

Dan il-proġett ta’ Camilleri huwa estensjoni fuq skala nazzjonali ta’ xogħol li kien tella’ f’wirja fil-mużew BOZAR bħala parti mill-wirja Land of Sea. Il-kuncett, fil-qosor ħafna, jittratta l-impermanenza u ż-żmien, id-distruzzjoni ta’ intervent li suppost jfakkar memorja imma li biż-żmien jintilef, kemm minħabba l-elementi naturali, kif ukoll minħabba intervent uman.

Dan il-proġett artistiku jinvolvi t-tinqix ta’ 9 versi f’9 siti madwar Malta, fosthom f’barrieri, f’siti ta’ kostruzzjoni, fuq rdum u f’salini. Huwa proġett b’intervent ftit ambizzjuż fuq x-xija ta’ Stones, il-blat tad-deheb li kien ħoloq fl-1999.

Arblu Majjistru

Nitgeddes mal-Unjoni Patrijottika għal Pajjiż Safi

f’dal-mument gravi.

Nissakkar ma’ ġenbejha,

ninħeba ġo sidirha jħabbat ritmu Malti,

nissaħħan sew fis-serħ ta’ demmha safi.

Tilfuni dawn il-barranin li jabbużaw

minn ġensi twajjeb –

dan nazzjon Latin, Ewropew, Kattoliku Ruman,

mhux landa tal-iskart uman.

Ma rridx nintefa’ l-baħar nara jegħreq lil pajjiżi.

Ma rridx nerħih f’idejhom dawn il-qabda parassiti:

idejja norbothom sod mal-arblu –

La negħleb jien u lanqas hu!

Għax jien il-proprja Malti.

L-Unjoni tilqagħni, tweżinni, titlifni.

L-Unjoni xegħlet fjamma li ssaħħan lil kull Malti!

U mbagħad ħuġġieġa nar

insaffu ’l dan pajjiżna mifni.

Ma nerħihx l-arblu minn idejja!

Lanqas jekk negħja.

Constellation Malta is finally open to the public. DISGĦA was a challenging, rewarding journey thanks to help of so many friends. Here’s Daniel’s pic of the work in progress on one of the 9 sites.

DISGĦA is a site specific installation by local artist Austin Camilleri, part of our contemporary arts exhibition Constellation Malta. This installation is composed of verses from 9 different poems by Maltese poets engraved on different sites and rock formations across the Malta and Gozo.

The verses juxtapose the concepts of the timelessness of nature, with the ephemeral notion of the transitory often captured in memory.

Fort St. Elmo will host images of these beautiful engravings as part the onsite exhibition.

Constellation Malta is an immersive experience spanning all over Malta and Gozo, which opens to the public on 13 October until 09 December 2018.

Austin Camilleri’s site specific interventions are:

MHIX (Private Residence in Wardija, Malta)

GĦADIRA (Development Site, Sliema)

MAPPA (Quarry, Qala, Gozo)

L-AĦĦAR (Cliff, Sannat/Munxar, Gozo)
